“Learn to move man through God by Prayer alone”
This was the maxim by which George Muller, carved out his ministry in Bristol back in the 19th Century. This was caught by Hudson Taylor through their friendship and undergirded his pivotal ministry in China.
Prayer, for these men of faith and purpose was the foundation for operations and total dependency on God was the only way in which they determined to live. God was to be trusted and relied upon in all things. This stubborn faith and resolute stance in prayer brought about miraculous answers to prayer and stimulated the birth of faith in God within many hearts.
I think there is much to learn from these men of faith and their example of total dependency on God in a time of so much insecurity and uncertainty. Hope is the needed medication for the context of many peoples lives and is a word that is being branded around on the national circuit. These men knew hope as the overflow of faith in God. Hope was not a vain aspiration but a confident assurance overflowing from faith in God who is able to do far more than we can ask or imagine.
“Faith is the assurance of things hoped for…” (Hebrews 11:1)
